About me

I am a Research Professor at the University of Calgary in Canada and an Associate Professor and a Neurosurgeon at the Medical University of Vienna.
I am interested in novel technologies for brain tumor surgery and skull base surgery with emphasis on endoscopy. I specialize in minimally invasive surgery and endoscopic treatments for the brain. I have patents for innovations in robotics, endoscopy and neuronavigation. I have performed over 2 500 neurosurgical interventions in addition to over 1 000 as an assisting physician and over 500 teaching.
My main experience areas:
-Over 20 years of experience in endoscopic surgery for tumors of the sellar region, mainly pituitary adenomas, cysts, craniopharyngeomas and chordomas. A highly individualized treatment plan including wait-and-see, medical, surgical and radiosurgical options is mandatory for these lesions.
-Over 20 years of experience in surgery for brain tumors including meningiomas using technology to make these surgeries most complete and safe. Crucial for brain tumor surgery is maximum tumor removal with preservation of brain function. Therefore, I combine 3D planning, mapping of brain function including awake surgeries, intraoperative tissue interrogation methods to one individual treatment plan to optimize outcome and quality of life.
-Together with a team of physiotherapists, I have been treating patients with spinal disc prolapse and spinal stenosis for over 20yrs, both conservative and surgical with minimally invasive interventions.
My research focuses on robotics, surgical simulation, intraoperative imaging, and intraoperative tissue interrogation. I have published over 88 publications in high impact journals and written 4 book chapters. My total impact factor is 220.
I am active in local, national and international teaching, mentoring, lecturing, and congress and workshop organization since 1998. I have supervised multiple habilitation, diploma, PhD and doctoral theses.

I am extremely satisfied. The doctor took great care that I will understand what was going on, even though I did not have a medical education. He described the possibilities perfectly and also stated his opinion on how he would proceed. I am really very happy because I know what I am up to and I can decide what to do next. Thank you very much. I fully recommend this service

Dear Dr. Wolfsberger, thank you for your second opinion report and for the re-analysis all of my MRI series. Thank you for your professional opinion/advice on the current and next steps of my treatment. This is very important and valuable information for me. It will help me decide on the next steps and consult it with my doctor. To other clients: The report was clear, objective and to the point. The doctor valuablely answered my questions. Highly recommended. Also support from backoffice was excellent. I would definitely use this service again if needed.
